Dasnami Sampradaya One of the major achievements of Acharya Shankaracharya was to organize the Hindu monasticism. He divided the Hindu monks into ten sects called "Dasnami" and organized them under four heads with the Headquarters at Dwaraka in the West, Jagannatha Puri in the East, Rameswaram in the South and Badrikashrama in the North. These became the four sacred "Dhams", "Holy Places" of the Hindus. He also enumerated other details of the order of Hindu monks grouped under these heads for their identity. Although there are today a number of Hindu monastic sects, the most authentic are the ten established by Acharya Shankaracharya .

PLEASE PUT IT AS BRAHMIN DASHNAM GOSWAMI..
ReplyDeletewe are the Brahmin dashnami please all of you ,i,request to write it as thanks bro/sis who post this...thanks
DeleteStrongly disagree with you. Dashnami's are not the Brahmins....Person from any cast can be Dashnami.
DeleteAbhash, Dashnami's all are Brahmins. Dashnami Brahmin's don't do Karmkand they can become teacher to People & other people. Due to lack of communication gap between Dashnami. There are lot of dashnami people don't know importance of this Birth.
DeleteThat's great information! Thanks a bunch!

ReplyDeleteThe Maha Vaakya of the Puri Sampradaaya is not (Aham Brahmaasmi!) as cited above but So-Aham! (commonly mispronounced as Sohang!
DeleteThough Aham Brahmaasmi! (I am Brahma) and Ayam Aatman Brahmasti! (This soul is itself the Brahma) and So Aham!(That is I) have the same sense of expressing the Vishishta Advaita Vaada of Swami Shi Shankaracharya Ji Maharaj which says that the soul and the Supreme Being are one and inseparable, So Aham! (That is I!) is the vedic answer to the eternal question Ko Asi? (Who art thou?) (Nachiketa - Yama dialog:Vrihadaaranya Upanishada)
Sorry, Sohang is not a mispronuciation at all. Sa+ ahang = sohang. This is swar sandhi
DeletePeople asks me where does my cast lie in the cast system?? Is it above chettri or below chettri ? I have no idea. If anybody have information, please let me know.
ReplyDeleteGiri Brahmins are highest in the Brahmins branch.
DeleteI am aranya but my gotra according to me is Angirasa but according to given information it should be Kashyapa. Why??

ReplyDeleteI see a few quite interesting questions being raised by different people on this post. The question seems to be centered around some kind of ancestry etc... For example, if my surname ends with a Puri - do I belong to the Puri sect? Interesting indeed. For, so far my understanding has been as below: 1) Adi Saankaracharya introduced this dus nami system for the monastic orders. 2) Not sure if this applies to the householders and can be mapped to the surnames of people. 3) Monks like Swami Vivekananda and all of them in the Ramakrishna order belong in the Puri Sect of Monks. Just like Yogi Adityanath belong in the Nath sect of monks or Kriya yogi Yogananda belong in the Giri sect. As a matter of fact Swami Vivekananda's full name is: Swami Vivekananda Puri. Similarly Swami Pranavananda Giri created the Bharat Sevashram Sangha order.
ReplyDeleteWell, originally so. However, some followers of those sects over time became householders. So, they carried their monastic names
DeleteHi..puri,giri,and bharati etc are the caste above brahmin...their work is to worship god and teach brahmins..so,they are lnown as the teacher of brahmin..
ReplyDeleteThanks for clarification
DeleteDo "Ban" fall in this category as well?
DeleteWe are of upperest caste and pure caste of Hinduism...
ReplyDeleteMissing gotras of dashnami
ReplyDeleteKashyap
Bharadwaja

We are Above all caste
ReplyDeleteSee in 51 Pithas and 52 Dhamas, Shiva and Shakti are there. Shiva himself is the Nath of all Nath in the whole Universe as said in Shiva Purana and also written there that when nothing was there, there Shiva existed. All and everything came from Shiva, so all are equal. Just for social higherarchy one section of people tried to dominate other section of people and tried to recognise themselves as higher castes, it's a silly matter. See how much one community contributed to the world in different fields, that's the matter. Most of us try to show our castes as higher caste by throwing clay upon other caste is a social joking, I think. They belong to higher classes who have contributed something good for the human beings as a whole. Others are third class brockers claims as higher as per my opinion.
ReplyDeletewho is ishta dev of puri goswami? If one wants to follow the path of spirituality then to which god he should pray?
ReplyDeleteMy father's side is Aparnathi, my mother side is Meghnathi. For some strange reasons we Giri's have 52 sub caste and they intermarry , excluding their own cast per example, I am an Aparnathi and I can not marry an Aparnathi.
